I was in the Santurce arts district at a cheaper hotel, and I'm glad I did that. The beach scene is kind of trashy, but might be fine for some folks. The Old San Juan area is a tourist place, though some good restaurants. Definitely see the Colon and el Morro forts.
If I were to do it again, I'd rent a car and get out of San Juan to have multiple days for el Yunque and other natural areas, and to just drive around the rest of the island.
You can uber around, or rent scooters, and the busses go to the main places you'd want to visit.

North, south and east water fronts are walking distance.
North, south and east water fronts are walking distance. Walk the del Morro shore trail for beautiful views, iguanas and many outdoor cats. Shopping, restaurants and bars galore. We loved Kaffe Haus for breakfast, and La Taberna Lupulo has many craft beers and fabulous fish tacos. Warning: it is hot and very humid. Rains a lot!

Puerto Rico is an island, but we are conservative in our way of dressing, and walk with in our bathing suits only in the beach.
Please be aware that not all the beaches are safe for swimming. San Juan faces the North Atlantic, with its strong currents.
Please do not walk the streets with expensive jewelry.
Park in paid parking, if possible.

We stayed in OLD SAN JUAN and it was great.
We stayed in OLD SAN JUAN and it was great. If you enjoy history and the origin of the Caribbean colonialism and cultures San Juan is treasure trove of information. The two main forts established over 600 are very impressive and well kept by the National Park Service. The “old San Juan” historic area has many quaint streets and restaurants. Prices in old San Juan (and Puerto Rico) were higher than we were expecting. 2-4 days is ample to see all.

I loved how friendly mostly everyone in san juan was .
I loved how friendly mostly everyone in san juan was . Personally it was hard for me to find food i liked but there are plenty of food options ! Unfortunately the weather wasn’t that great when i came so i couldn’t do many excursions but none the less i had a great and fun time ! The night life is top tier , everything is mostly walking distance And it’s always so warm but a comfy warm . I miss that already !!! I will be back to visit again 🤗
If you want to be in the middle of the night life and shopping scene, this is in a great location. We just needed a place for one night before we flew back to the mainland. This is a very simple hotel on a city beach. The building is stuffed between two larger buildings so there are no views to the beach or the city. But the beach is right there. Parking is expensive unless you find one of the places on the main drag that are open air. The staff were very nice. This is a cheap hotel that is clean and no frills. A place to sleep.
The property is starting as a hostel because it is a hotel. I really like the bed and pillow, it was very comfortable. The Internet connection works in all the hostel. The property has a pool very nice to enjoy the free time. Check in and check out was very easy and they accept to keep my bags previous and after my stay, it was very useful!! The location is perfect, near old San Juan, near some beaches, near a very known place for nightlife and near the airport. The bedroom is cleaned everyday, this is so good!
The room was spacious and the furniture was well placed to maximize the space. The bathroom was nice with modern touches, like the touch lights on the mirror.
The breakfast was good with the omlettes made to order by the friendly chef.
All the staff were friendly and helpful.
The hotel was in a great location being just walking distance from the convention center, and a short drive to the cruise port and airport and Plaza des Americas.
There was a shuttle that took you Old San Juan. That was really great.
First class hotel, steeped in history, with a beautiful courtyard patio with two restaurants and bars. The location was perfect - we could walk to anywhere we wanted to go in Old San Juan on charming cobblestone streets. Our room was huge, with windows that opened out onto the plaza, which was always fun to observe. Food, drinks and service in the hotel was top rate. The daily wine and cheese reception was great, and we tried to make it each day we were there.
Beautiful and charming historic hotel. Well-maintained and clean. Convenient to everything in Old San Juan. Rooms were huge, with more space than my family of 4 could use. Loved the rooftop pool area - great for a relaxing drink after a day of sightseeing. Breakfast was amazing! Staff were great. We’ve stayed in great hotels all over Europe and the US, and this was one of our absolute favorites. This hotel is Old San Juan at its best.
The location is excellent. Close to Condado where you can go to hotels and restaurants. Easy to get to Old San Juan and other excursions that you might like such as El Yunque and Luquillo Beach. Go to one of the hotels and book an excursion for the day. Ubers is the way to go; cheaper than renting a car. Uber is reasonable here. The staff was the best part and breakfast. I loved their coffee and so will you.
- great location near a ton of restaurants (and fine to uber to Old San Juan etc for activities, or walkable to hotels nearby that are usually pick up/drop off for tours)
- no keys to worry about losing or deactivating, just access codes for the doors
- they let me use a quick shower after check out since I had a water activity in the morning and then had to head to a flight
This is a very basic hotel. There are a few amenities like a small kitchen area (in the hotel, not the room) but don't expect anything fancy. That said, the staff were very pleasant and helpful, the rooms were clean and it felt secure. The location is excellent for both access to the beach (good surfing one beach over) and the airport. Old Town is a short cab or Uber away.
Great place to stay in Old San Juan. The location is perfect for walking around the city and very close to the port. The room was very spacious and clean, the staff was very helpful and kind during my stay to make any accommodations I requested. Highly recommend visiting the bar inside the hotel, it had a very cozy vibe and the bartender Mercedes was the best!
The architecture and focus on relaxing areas outside of the room was a large bonus during rain events and during times between activities. The forested center of the hotel is a mini oasis in the City. The staff were all friendly and helpful. The inclusion of a coffee hour and wine/cheese hour was a welcome touch.
The staff at the front desk was very nice and helpful. They went above and beyond to help one of my girlfriend with her cellphone and also, the guys that call taxi. I like the fact that the hotel is right on the beach. I also like the view of our room. We were facing the city and it's so beautiful at night.
The location is terrific, a smaller hotel right on the beach. Staff were friendly and helpful despite it being a kind of crazy time (New Years). In general the room was excellent with a great view. We ate a couple times at the restaurant and the was well prepared and delicious. See photo of views.
Beautiful boutique hotel, everything is charming and the room is small, but comfortable. There’s a jacuzzi upstairs, which was fun! The location is amazing, right in the middle of Old San Juan, so you can do everything on foot! Would definitely recommend.
The women at the front desk could not be less helpful. They really didnt care to do anything beyond check you in andgive you a key. The beach was filled with locals who were disrespectful. A hotel like this should have its own private beach.
Good location near Santurce. The first room we had did not have hot water but we were able to change room for the second night so that was nice. The public buses run right outside the hotel and takes you all the way to Old San Juan.
The hotel is absolutely enchanting. The open air lobby is spectacular. The rooftop patio was wonderful to enjoy at all times of the day. The location to old town San Juan and the walk around the harbor could not be better.
Perfect location on the beach, beautiful area. We stayed 3 nights and really enjoyed our time. Couple of restaurants within 5 min biking with bikes you can borrow from the hotel.
Hyatt place is absolutely the best hotel to stay in, in the San Juan area. The price is reasonable and the service and facility is top notch. Staff is super friendly and nice.
