Interesting place! Some beautiful sites around the main square. Worth staying close by to attractions as walking is the best way to get around, Traffic is a gridlocked nightmare. People are generally friendly and helpful. Try to get out to the countryside to see the natural beauty of Mongolia.

Ulaanbaatar is a great location (and one of the only options) to base your Mongolia starting point out of. Having a few nights in the city is all you need, but when traveling to Mongolia, your goal should be to get into the country and tour what makes Mongolia and it's nomadic culture and open landscape so unique. For example, in a 10 day trip to Mongolia, I would only spend 3 days in Ulaanbaatar and the rest with a guide out in the countryside.

It was noisy and very busy with traffic.
It was noisy and very busy with traffic. Footpaths are a walking hazard. Very few people spoke English and weren't very helpful.
I found a delightful vegan cafe that had modified traditional Mongolian food so I ate there a couple of times. The Gandan Monastery precinct was interesting.

Ulaanbaatar s a great base for exploring Mongolia.
Ulaanbaatar s a great base for exploring Mongolia. It’s a modern capital but with the added extra that it’s the centre of a nomadic country. The 1930s purge means that there is not a lot of old culture. So if you like temples and castles, go somewhere else. Sukkbataar Square is great to wander around in teh evenings. Families and young people having fun and socialising. The Chinggis Khan museum is excellent.

A city in progress day by day with mixture of old building...
A city in progress day by day with mixture of old building and modern buildings in harmonization to let you feel both history and development at once time. There are paintings on wall of building on street reflecting either traditional culture, modern art pr commercial advertisement, but all very nice. but traffic is little bit heavy at summit time. There are construction field on street in summer may block the way.
The temperature in summer (in June) is good for travel on day and at night for sleep.
Airport is new and highway is also new and convenient, People are friendly. The city is close to forest, grassland and some sand dunes, landscape are diverse, My only concern is the grassland under great pressure of overgrazing and risk to degradation.
This is not a hotel! You have to know that. The standard is very basic. But if you want to sleep in a yurt and in a typical Mongolian atmosphere, this is a good choice. The owners are very friendly and speak English. They are always available to help.
Organise your first arrival, the guesthouse is difficult to find. I would never have found the guesthouse without the help of the friendly taxi driver.
The guesthouse is very close to the Gandan Monastery. The centre is about 3 km away and easy to reach.
This host is an absolute hero and helped me sort out a very difficult situation from the UK... from arrival at Airport in Mongolia, Anna was extremely tired due to visa issues at Beijing, and zero sleep - the host contacted Anna directly and helped sort out a taxi from the airport for most of the afternoon to find a taxi and help Anna reach the property after her Western Union exchange had been denied by the Agent slimy because of Annas nationality. The host went above and beyond... Thank you so much.
We really enjoyed our stay at Platinum Hotel, we were especially delighted by the wide selection of breakfast, the location of the hotel, and the wonderful staff. They were genuinely hospitable, polite and friendly. The hotel’s rooms are spacious, with very comfortable beds. Everything’s clean and nice. Truly one of the best hotels in Ulaanbaatar. We are happy when the expectations match the reality! Thank you and we definitely are looking forward to visiting you again.
Wonderfull stuff and hotel just next to main square. Amazing value for money, definately will return here next time in Ulanbataar. Its perfect value for money, as comfortable as much more expensive 4stars hotels nearby. I would recomend this one the most out of 4 hotels I stazed in Ulanbaataar. Even they prepared for us a sandwich for leaving early for the airport, and the airport taxi was a normal price, not trying to rip us off like in other hotels.
Uka and his wife are very kind. Uka is an amazing guide and really watches out for you as a guest and tourist to make sure you are safe and have a good experience in Mongolia. He’s a wonderful cook and has many years of experience in tourism. I met nice people through the hostel and during the tour I booked with Gobi-Zen. Recommended if you are an adventurous traveler who can go with the flow. ;)
Very spacious apartment with views. Located between the airport and Ulaanbaatar city centre, so for us it is a good choice for our last night before going to the airport (can avoid the traffic in city centre). They also offered free pick-up service from the airport, and since we didn't use the free pick-up, they provided us a free drop-off to the airport instead.
Very good service. There is a shopping gallery at the ground floor, including food store, where you can buy all you need during your stay.
I had to leave earlier and hotel made reimbursement of my advanced paid amount within a few days after my departure. This is very nice and deserves respect. Next time in Mongolia I will certainly stay at this hotel again.
I booked a twin room at Nomado Boutique Hotel for a few days. If you are looking for an extraordinary hotel, this is the place for you. It's a place with amazing room decor that will surprise anyone (and frankly, I was surprised too). It is reasonably priced. You can make a reservation on a website called booking.com.
Excellent location with a bar Soulmate open 24 hrs 2 mins away. A sedate bar, not rowdy. Also a shop on the bottom of the road that sells food also opens 24 hrs. Taxi to and from the airport £20 each way organised by hostel. Room lovely and hot, shower perfect. Excellent value for money.
The gentleman at the front desk went above and beyond to help with questions I had and making sure I had breakfast on my way back to the airport, even though the restaurant was still closed. It was an amazing building, absolutely beautiful. I can only recommend this hotel
Excellent location, staff, and breakfast. Rooms are very clean and huge. My friend and I were checked in ahead of check-in time and they even upgraded both of us! The views of the main square and city were fantastic! Don’t think twice; book your stay in Ulaanbaatar here.
There are some grocery supermarkets near by. It will take you 20-25 minutes to reach Ulaanbaatr’s centre on foot. I recommend to visit an interesting Mongolian style clothing store “IVEEL” at Ard Ayush Avenue. Just around the corner from the appartment.
Exceptional value in UB. Everything was perfect and the host is friendly and helpful. We used the laundry service and the airport dropoff too. It's a short walk to Gandan monastery, and there are many karaoke, shops, and restaurants close by.
The staff was very polite and helpful. Besides, they pick up from the airport for free. I arrived at around 04:00 AM, and there were a driver and a kind assistant waiting for me and take to Eagle Town. Nice service!
The location is great, room has enough space. And hallway is quite big. Bed stuff was very clean. If you stay here you donate the money to Mongolian orphanage.
