A good jumping off place for excursions on a road trip. We were touring to see friends, family, and foliage. We came down from Houlton, on the way to Massachusetts and stayed Overnight at the Pittsfield Motor Inn. The next day we went to the Douglas Mountain Stone Tower: Near the summit of Douglas Mountain is a stone tower that provides views of Sebago Lake, nearby mountains, and even views as far as the White Mountains in New Hampshire. On one side of the tower is a staircase the winds its way inside the tower to the commanding view on top. The edge of the tower are protected with a chain link fence and there is a sign that labels the mountains that can be spotted from the top of the tower. We could see Mount Washington. Its a hike, so bring proper footwear & water! We departed west to the Spaulding Turnpike, and south, a change from Route 95, and much prettier!
